Modular: A recital program featuring music by Florent Schmitt, Kevin Ernste, Daniel Schnyder, and Karlheinz Stockhausen.
Modular, adjective: Constructed with standardized units or dimensions for flexibility and variety in use.
All of the music presented on the recital can be imagined in many different ways. For instance, Florent Schmitt wrote his Lied et Scherzo first for solo horn and wind nonet and later arranged the piece for horn and piano, cello and piano, and piano four-hands. Each variation provides a new perspective of the work.
The recital also features Faith DeBow, pianist with the Grammy-winning choral ensemble, Conspirare, and Ilan Morgenstern, bass trombone with the San Antonio Symphony, with visual elements provided by Daniel Braunstein.
Program:
Kevin Ernste Nisi for horn and live electronics
Florent Schmitt Lied et Scherzo
Daniel Schnyder Duo Concertante for Tenor Trombone and Bass Trombone, adapted for Horn and Bass Trombone
Karlheinz Stockhausen In Freundschaft
